Lahav’s work uses portraits, abstracts, and plant sculptures to tell non-linear narratives in contrast to society’s binary expectations. Our shared history in pop culture plays a big role in Lahavs work. Past the veil of recognizable imagery lie undertones of trauma, repair, and growth. These have become key themes to the artists exploration of under-recognized cultural histories along with Lahav’s personal journey as a foster parent.

Solo museum shows include the Slater Art Museum CT, Richmond Art Museum IN, Longview MFA TX, Saginaw Art Museum MI, Florence Griswold Museum CT among others, and Lahav’s work can be found in multiple public collections, including the Jewish Museum Milwaukee, Mount Holyoke Art Museum, and more.

COMMUNITY WORK

As a cultural creator, Lahav’s has an active curatorial practice, is an advocate for foster care, and a community activist. In 2020 they helped found the group Public Art For Racial Justice Education (PARJE).

Lahav’s most notable community action art project, called “The Great Americans Project”, engages local institutions and individuals. This work celebrates diversity, civil rights icons, and unheard narratives with a focus on inclusivity and equity. During workshops children and adults engage with giant coloring book pages featuring notable local figures. Lahav re-prints these images onto velvet, creating a giant tapestry of under-represented local histories

Participating Venues: Bruce Museum, Wadsworth Museum, Jewish Museum Milwaukee, Mystic Seaport Museum, MoCA Westport, Bruce Museum, Lyme Art Association, Rocky Hill School, Mystic Aquarium, Lyme Art Academy, Sikh Art Gallery Norwich, and many more.
